According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has opted to cancel summer drama Zoo after three seasons, with the show’s now series finale having aired September 21st.
Based on the James Patterson novel of the same name and developed for television by Jeff Pinkner (Fringe), Josh Appelbaum (Life on Mars), Andre Nemec (Star-Crossed), and Scott Rosenberg (Life on Mars), Zoo followed American zoologist Jackson Oz (James Wolk) as he teamed with safari guide Abraham (Nonso Anozie), veterinary pathologist Dr. Mitch Morgan (Billy Burke), reporter Jamie Campbell (Kristin Connolly), and French intelligence investigator Chloe (Nora Arnezeder) to investigate a mysterious pandemic of violent animal attacks.
Zoo was one of only two original scripted series to air on CBS this summer, joining asteroid drama Salvation on the network’s docket. As both were produced by CBS, what made the difference between Zoo‘s cancellation and Salvation‘s renewal might’ve been the latter getting a streaming deal with Amazon that could produce the type of ancillary income to make up, at least in the short term, for ratings shortfalls.
With Zoo‘s cancellation, the only original scripted series whose fate has yet to be determined is Midnight, Texas, which has been in limbo since its mid-September season finale.
