The USA cable network is developing a series that would be a modern-day take on the Zorro legend.
Variety broke the news Friday that USA is developing Z, a series which, according to the trade, “will chronicle the rise of Diego Moreno from an orphaned teen and raising his sister with little supervision, to an infamous hero fighting to save the city.” The show would take place in present day Los Angeles.
USA has ordered a script, and if they like it, the project could go right to series, skipping the pilot process.
Whit Brayton and Zack Rice are writing the script and executive producers include Naren Shankar (Grimm) and Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk). Leterrier will direct several episodes if the project is picked up to series. If successful, this wouldn’t be the first time Zorro has found a home on cable. The early 90’s saw a popular series on the Family Channel (now ABC Family) that starred Duncan Regehr.

I’m no where near the biggest fan of Zorro but wouldn’t mind seeing them pulling this off!
Obviously more to this than its mentioned since Zorro’s alter ego was a wealthy and the similar alter ego style of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
The last future version was animated this if live action needs to be better than Smallville, Arrow, The Cape and the Wonder Woman pilot without making the same mistakes they’re doing even if two were much more successful!
The perfect role for Alex Meraz or Gray Damon.
It will be interested to see how a modern version of Zorro will work. I hope that Zorro will get a great villain/villainess in the series. I hope that there willbe a balance between Zerro and his ID in the series.
