FXX has announced that acclaimed comedy You’re the Worst has been renewed for a fifth and final season, which will premiere next year.
“Stephen Falk has been an extraordinary creative partner to work with over the past four years, and it is in that spirit that we came to the mutual decision to end You’re the Worst with its fifth season,” said Nick Grad, President of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions along with Eric Schrier. “Stephen’s singular vision for the series has been its guiding force from the start and our decision, while difficult, will allow the series to end on its own terms and in a way most satisfying to its devoted fans. We want to thank Stephen, the cast and the crew for everything they’ve done to make You’re the Worst one of the best comedies on TV.”
From Stephen Falk (Orange Is the New Black), You’re the Worst follows self-destructive, clinically depressed publicist Gretchen (Aya Cash) and narcissistic author Jimmy (Chris Geere) as they get into a relationship based on their mutual disgust over matters of the heart. However, it’s not long before their defenses are down and genuine feelings develop, throwing them both in a tailspin they never saw coming.
In addition to Cash and Geere, You’re the Worst stars Desmin Borges (Preacher) and Kether Donohue (Pitch Perfect). With the series concluding next year, FXX’s original programming coffers look quite empty, as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is currently on hiatus and Man Seeking Woman was concluded earlier this year. The only new series currently set to premiere on FXX is a Deadpool animated series from Donald Glover, which should be coming in 2018.
The one-hour season finale of You’re the Worst airs tonight at 10:00 on FXX.
