TV Land has announced that the sixth season of Younger will premiere Tuesday, June 12th at 10:00.
It’s been an eventful hiatus for Younger, which was slated to move to TV Land sister network Paramount as recently as September. The original plan was for the fledgling network to use Younger‘s ratings power to launch a dramedy night alongside fellow Darren Star series Emily in Paris and a First Wives Club series adaptation from Girls Trip writer Tracy Oliver. However, First Wives Club wound up moving to BET and Emily in Paris took a while to find its lead, so plans were eventually aborted and Younger remained on TV Land for at least one more season.
Part of the reason Viacom didn’t want Younger to move was the ratings momentum it built during season five, which became the show’s highest rated season in the 18-49 demo. The series is also the #1 series on ad-supported cable for two consecutive years among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, so even though it’s the sole original on a network that’s stopped accepting scripted pitches, that’s still preferential to possibly losing viewers in the move.
The sixth season of Younger focuses on Kelsey adjusting to her new role as publisher at Millennial Print, while Liza and Charles see what their relationship looks like following his decision to step down.
