Deadline is reporting that Freeform has expanded the season five episode order for Young & Hungry, upping the show’s tally from 10 episodes to 20 in advance of its upcoming premiere. The expansion puts season five equal to the show’s second season, the only of which to go above 10 episodes.
This decision comes on the heels of Freeform opting not to pick up Young & Sofia, the planned spinoff centering around Sofia’s (Aimee Carrero) new job working for magazine mogul Logan Rawlings (Ashley Tisdale). Though the series wasn’t picked up by the network, Sofia’s journey into the world of journalism will continue into season five, with Tisdale likely making guest appearances as needed.
When the fifth season of Young & Hungry picks up, Josh (Jonathan Sadowski) and Gabi (Emily Osment) are trying to prove to their friends that they can sustain a friends with benefits relationship without romantic feelings getting in the way. They thought that by taking the romance out of their relationship, things would get much less complicated, thereby allowing them to enjoy the physical chemistry they have with one another. However, it soon becomes apparent that their new arrangement isn’t built to last.
Season five of Young & Hungry, which will see sitcom legend Betty White recurring as new neighbor Ms. Wilson, is set to premiere Monday, March 13th at 8:00 on Freeform.
