Hulu announced that scripted series Y: The Last Man and American Horror Stories have moved from their original home of FX to the streamer’s FX on Hulu programming hub.
The decision comes seven months after the announcement of FX on Hulu, which was coupled with news of Jeff Bridges CIA drama The Old Man, Kate Mara/Nick Robinson limited series A Teacher, Alex Garland sci-fi thriller Devs, and period drama Mrs. America, all previously at FX, moving to FX on Hulu. Both Devs and Mrs. America have already debuted to strong reviews, with the latter a major Emmy contender, while the streamer says more than 50 percent of its subscribers have engaged with the programming hub.
However, more FX content heading to FX on Hulu in lieu of airing on a linear FX channel with Hulu getting second-window (e.g. FXX’s Dave, FX’s Breeders) is a sign that for its bonafides with critics and the creative community, the FX as we know it is essentially over, a victim of TV’s streaming arms race and the crumbling foundation of the linear cable business model.
From Ryan Murphy (The Politician), American Horror Stories is a spinoff of immensely popular FX horror anthology American Horror Story. The series will differ from its parent by offering up self-contained episodic stories in lieu of season-long arcs, while it’s yet to be determined whether characters from the original will have their own individual tales in American Horror Stories.
