During the show’s panel at Comic-Con today, the cast and producers of Syfy drama Wynonna Earp announced that the show has been renewed for a 10-episode second season. The first season of the series, a delightfully loopy blend of Justified, Supernatural, Lost Girl, and season one Sleepy Hollow, featured 13 episodes.
Based on the comic series of the same name and adapted for television by Emily Andras (Lost Girl), Wynonna Earp tells the story of the title character (Melanie Scrofano), a troubled descendant of Wyatt Earp who returns to her hometown of Purgatory for a family funeral. Once there, Wynonna begrudgingly assumes her role as the heir to Wyatt’s demon killing gun and sets about taking down the demons that are infesting her town. Along with her sister Waverly, Agent Dolls of the secretive Black Badge Division, and an immortal ally of Wyatt’s, Wynonna must keep the demons from escaping the town and invading the rest of the world – by any means necessary.
In addition to Scrofano, Wynonna Earp stars Tim Rozon (Being Human), Shamier Anderson (Defiance), and Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Britannia High). The series is part of a drama lineup for Syfy that includes recently renewed 12 Monkeys, The Magicians, and Z Nation.
The second season of Wynonna Earp is set to premiere in 2017.
What did you think of the first season of Wynonna Earp? Did you prefer the more procedural beginning of the season or the more serialized tail end of the season? Do you think that Wynonna will be able to save Dolls while keeping the town from being overrun by revenants?
