Hulu has set a premiere date for upcoming comedy Woke, it was announced on Thursday. The semi-animated Lamorne Morris series, an irreverent look at identity, culture, and the concept of wokeness, will release all eight episodes in its first season on Wednesday, September 9th.
Based on the life of artist Keith Knight, with Marshall Todd (Barbershop) and Knight developing for television and Jay Dyer (Californication) acting as showrunner, Woke follows talented African-American cartoonist Keef (Morris) as he finds himself on the precipice of the mainstream success he’s worked toward for years. However, a racist incident with the police threatens to unravel everything, with Keef having to navigate the new voices and ideas that confront and challenge him without losing what he’s already built.
In addition to Morris, the series stars T. Murph (Get Shorty) and Blake Anderson (Workaholics).
