The Image Comics character Witchblade created by Marc Silvestri may be returning to television.
THR is reporting that a new take on the character who was previously adapted for a series starring Yancy Butler for two seasons on TNT is being developed by Vampire Diaries and Smallville alum Caroline Dries, who will write the script and executive produce. Joining her for the journey is TVD’s Brian Young, who will also be an executive producer, as well as EPs Carol Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz from Sony. Also listed as Executive Producers will be the character’s creator Marc Silvestri, Top Cow’s Matt Hawkins, and Circle of Confusion’s Rick Jacobs and Dave Alpert.
Here’s how THR describes this take on the project:
The Sony Pictures Television drama centers on homicide detective Sara Pezzini, on the hunt for an elusive serial killer, who must navigate the grisly streets and police politics of San Francisco’s Mission District — until one day the bracelet she has worn her entire life gives her supernatural insight into a crime she’s trying to solve. Her bracelet is the Witchblade, an amulet that has been worn by remarkable women throughout history, and Sara is next in line.
Right now, it’s listed as only a “script commitment,” so no pilot has been ordered yet. Would you watch a new Witchblade? Leave some comments below!
