HBO has released the first teaser for upcoming comic drama Watchmen.
Based on the DC Comics series written by Alan Moore, withThe Leftoversduo Tom Perrotta and Damon Lindelof adapting for television,Watchmenis said to be a dark, satirical take on the superhero genre.To be set in an alternate future that frames the heroes as “outlaws,” this latest adaptation of a source material that’s already borne a polarizing 2009 film will attempt to break new ground on its own while embracing the nostalgia of its material.
Though no details about their characters have been made official at this point, Watchmen stars Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow), Regina King (American Crime), Don Johnson (Blood & Oil), Frances Fisher (Resurrection), Adelaide Clemens (Rectify), Andrew Howard (Limitless), Dylan Schombing (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce), Lily Rose Smith (The Vampire Diaries), and newcomer Adelynn Spoon.
Watchmen joins a slate of yet-to-debut 2019 newbies for HBO that includes Philip Pullman adaptation His Dark Materials, teen drama Euphoria, horror comedy Los Espookys, televangelist comedy The Righteous Gemstones, and family drama Years and Years, among many others.
Watchmen is set to premiere this fall on HBO. An exact premiere date should be released in the coming months.
