After eight years of vampires, witches, werewolves, Originals, and romances, The Vampire Diaries signs off with tonight’s episode airing at 9PM on The CW.
Last week, cast members from the show spoke with press about whether or not this series finale would satisfy the show’s longtime audience.
“Yeah, I think it’s satisfying. I really do think so,” Paul Wesley (Stefan) said when asked about the fan response.
“I think people will be pretty satisfied,” Ian Somerhalder (Damon) agreed, before pointing to his experience as part of another series that had a big finale. “It’s hard. I wasn’t on the show the whole time, but I still hear people, even on like road trips, when I’m walking into a convenience store or getting gas, ‘Hey, man. That f—ing LOST ending! Let me talk about it.”’You’re like, ‘Dude, that was eight years ago, man. I just want to get my gas, and I gotta get out of here.’ You’re never going to be able to satisfy anyone,” he said, but “I think there’s a very beautiful orchestration to how this was sort of laid out.”
Michael Malarkey (Enzo) talked about how a long-running show affects every audience member in a certain way.
“It means so much to them for different reasons. Hence why it can never fully satisfy everybody, because your own perception of your reality of that show, it’s become greater than the show itself, you know. But I think we do it justice,” he promised.
The Vampire Diaries “I Was Feeling Epic” airs tonight at 9PM with a special retrospective airing at 8. You can see some photos below.
