Deadline is reporting that Selma actor Nigel Thatch and Corbin Reid (How to Get Away with Murder) have joined the cast of The CW’s military thriller pilot Valor. Thatch will be playing Captain Robert Torres, a tough-minded, fiercely loyal helicopter pilot who has high expectations of those under his rule, while Reid is set as Jess, the wife of one of the pilots and someone who lives on the Army base.
From Kyle Jarrow (The Lost Generation), Valor takes place on a United States Army base built to house an elite crew of helicopter pilots known as the Night Raiders. The series will focus on Gallo (Matt Barr) and Nora (Christina Ochoa), two pilots in the middle of training for a Somali rescue mission meant to save captured American servicemen. However, what the Army doesn’t know (and doesn’t need to know) is that the two have a secret about the mission that landed their brothers in the position they’re in now and they’re willing to do anything to keep it from becoming public.
In addition to his role on the acclaimed Ava DuVernay film, Thatch has appeared on American Dreams, Half & Half, and Girlfriends, with Reid’s credits including Kingdom and 2016’s Blair Witch sequel.
Valor is one of six CW pilots in contention for next season, including fantasy drama Searchers, DC-verse entrant Black Lightning, soapy reboot Dynasty, beauty pageant drama Insatiable, and cancer dramedy Life Sentence. Decisions as to which pilots will be made into series and which current CW shows will end this season should come down in early May.
