ABC released the trailer for upcoming comedy The Wonder Years and in it, we see a young boy dealing with the pains of growing up in the middle of a time filled with incredible social change.
Inspired by the acclaimed ’88-’93 series of the same name with Saladin Patterson (Psych) developing for television, The Wonder Years follows a middle-class Black family in Montgomery, Alabama circa the late 1960s. At the center of the series is 12-year-old Dean (Elisha “EJ” Williams), with his adult self (Don Cheadle) taking us through the ups, downs, highs, and lows of coming of age during a turbulent time in this nation’s history.
In addition to Williams and Cheadle, the series stars DulĂ© Hill (The West Wing), Saycon Sengbloh (Respect), Laura Kariuki (Black Lightning), Julian Lerner (Yes Day), Amari O’Neil (All American), and Milan Ray (Boomerang).
The Wonder Years is set to air Wednesdays at 8:30 this fall on ABC. You can check out the network’s full fall 2021 schedule here.
Will you be watching? How do you think the reboot looks in comparison to the original? Could the show being set so far in the past hurt their demo ratings or would strong creative help it overcome that and find an audience?
