When it comes to adapting the best-selling fantasy series The Witcher, Netflix is holding out for a Superman to sweep them off their feet.
Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Mission Impossible: Fallout, Justice League… Superman!) will be playing Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Saga for Netflix. The character is described as “a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
Netflix has also revealed more details about the upcoming series that will span for 8 episodes. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Umbrella Academy) is the Executive Producer and Showrunner. Also an Executive Producer is Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones) who is directing four episodes including Episode 1.
Additional directors that have been announced include Alex Garcia Lopez (Marvel’s Luke Cage) and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander, Counterpart) with 2 episodes apiece.
Fans had been hoping for Cavill to land the role of Geralt, and it appears now they are getting their wish. More casting announcements for The Witcher are likely coming soon.
