AMC has announced that western The Son has been renewed for a 10-episode second season, which should premiere in the first half of 2018.
“The Son proudly continues our Westerns tradition at AMC, including Broken Trail, Hell on Wheels and decades of films from The Duke, Clint and so many more. We are so pleased to add to that list another season of our original, multi-generational drama from Philipp Meyer, Kevin Murphy and a remarkable cast led by the incomparable Pierce Brosnan,” said AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios president Charlie Collier. “It’s our longstanding mission to super-serve Westerns fans on weekends and we look forward to continuing this epic next year. Welcome home, Son.”
Based on the Philipp Meyer novel of the same name, The Son follows the moral demise of Texas cattle baron Eli McCollough (Pierce Brosnan), a man whose interest in the oil industry takes him from good-natured innocent to calculated killer.
In addition to Brosnan, The Son stars Henry Garrett (Poldark), Zahn McClarnon (Fargo), and Jess Weixler (Teeth). The series is part of a scripted lineup for AMC that includes Fear the Walking Dead, Humans, Halt and Catch Fire, and Into the Badlands, among others.
The Son airs Saturdays on AMC.
