Ever since he came out, Kenny wanted nothing more than to find a boyfriend, a guy who’d been through similar experiences and could help him feel more connected to his sexuality. It’s one thing to be gay by yourself and it’s a whole other can of worms to be gay with and around someone else, so with Kenny not having a hopping social life, there was that much more internal pressure for him to get a significant other. He yearned to be part of the gay community and the relationship with Brett, early on as it might be, has helped him feel less alone in that regard. But with as much attention as he’s been giving this new, exciting thing that’s come into his life, has Kenny become a bit too wrapped up in Brett?
On the next episode of The Real O’Neals, Kenny grows jealous of Brett’s relationship with best friend Christie after the trio spend some time together at the Rainbow Grind. Brett and Christie have the typical best friend shorthand and inside jokes that can make any outsider feel left out, so Kenny spending time with them alone just exacerbates how unbalanced his social life is and how inadequate he can feel when around people who have it more together than he does. Despite being in a relationship with Brett, Kenny doesn’t have any close friends of his own and the closest person he has to a best friend is Allison, who he’s not exactly been treating well lately. Guilty over letting his new relationship take over his life, especially after how lonely he was for any LGBT connection before meeting Allison at the GSA, Kenny resolves to make up for his absence in his friend’s life and embrace her as his BFF. But will Allison even be willing to deal with Kenny after his disappearing act?
Elsewhere on The Real O’Neals, Jimmy celebrates having his own car by starting a ride sharing business with Shannon, while Eileen and Pat come to a realization about their complicated relationship with Clive.
The Real O’Neals airs Tuesdays at 9:30 on ABC.
How will Kenny make up for being a bad friend to Allison? Will Jimmy and Shannon be able to work together without their relationship suffering? Could Pat and Eileen be due for another evolution in their relationship?
