Originally set for this month, BET has announced that college drama The Quad will now premiere Wednesday, February 1st at 10:00. The show will follow the debut of scripted miniseries Mandiba, a six-hour miniseries starring Laurence Fishburne as Nelson Mandela, and join acclaimed Being Mary Jane as the only on-going scripted series on the network.
From Felicia Henderson (Fringe) and Charles Holland (Playmakers), The Quad tells the story of Dr. Eva Fletcher (Anika Noni Rose), the secretive new president of HBCU Georgia A&M, and how her administration impacts the incoming freshman class. Not only does Eva have to make an immediate financial impact on the school, which is verging on bankruptcy, she has to find a way to save her marriage while keeping her rebellious daughter, also a freshman at GAMU, from going down the wrong path. While the freshmen followed range from marching band hopefuls to the school’s first white starting quarterback, Eva will come up against the school’s ruthless marching band director and use her connections with the Dean of the History Department and the head football coach as the support she needs in such an overwhelming time.
In addition to Rose, The Quad stars Peyton Alex Smith (Mad Money), Jazz Raycole (My Wife and Kids), Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Castle), Michelle Defraites (Project Almanac), Jake Allyn (Pocket Listing), Sean Blakemore (Star Trek Into Darkness), E. Roger Mitchell (The Equalizer), Jasmine Guy (A Different World), and newcomer Zoe Renee.
