A few days ago, word got out that The CW would be developing a backdoor pilot for The Originals, focused on the Vampire Diaries character Klaus (Joseph Morgan) in New Orleans. As this is huge news, especially to the dedicated Vampire Diaries fan base, this was a hot topic at this morning’s CW Executive Session at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, where press grilled CW President Mark Pedowitz about a number of subjects.
“Hopefully some of his siblings will join along,” Pedowitz says, igniting hope that we will be seeing folks like Rebekah (Claire Holt), Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic), and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) within. “Klaus is one of the founding fathers in New Orleans, and the show will be set in that venue. Klaus is just a great character and the original family has such great dysfunctional family dynamics, we felt that that was a great way to go and take the show,” he says.
Pedowitz confirms that Phoebe Tonkin will be in the Originals spin-off pilot as her Vampire Diaries character Hayley. “At the moment Phoebe will be coming on board for the spinoff,” he says. “We thought Phoebe really did a good job in Secret Circle. We wanted to have her on the CW family.”
Currently, the Vampire Diaries backdoor pilot for The Originals is scheduled to appear as an episode of TVD on Thursday, April 25. Stay tuned for more Originals news as it becomes available!
