The notion of a spin-off featuring the original family of vampires from The Vampire Diaries has been talked about for a while — now, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that it could be happening, with a back-door pilot scheduled to actually air on April 25.
The working title of the series — should it become a series — would be The Originals, and Julie Plec will write the spin-off episode and be the showrunner if the project is greenlit.
According to THR, the pilot episode will see Klaus returning to “to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans — a town he helped build centuries ago — and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel.” Phoebe Tonkin will also appear, as Hayley. We’re hoping Rebekah, Kol, and ELIJAH will also be present, but no reports have come out about that yet.

I love the Originals, but I love Klaroline more. If that gets taken away then I can guarantee both TVD and this new show will not have me as a viewer. That breaks my heart, but when my favourite couple gets permanently taken away then I lose interest in a show.
This all sounded great. Until the idea of Hayley popped out. She is not a fan favorite. Do the writers get that? This means Klaus’ relationship with Stefan, Caroline, and Damon will now be gone. I had such high hopes. Please no.
This isn’t okay… Julie is out of her mindd ! I’m totally excited that The Originals are getting their own show, but no Klaroline or Klefan is just heartbreaking -.- And why put Haley in the show ?! And the fact that it’s going to be a flashback series is just.. awful. This is just a night mare for me right now.. this cannot be happening :l You suck Julie. If this happens ,TVD will lose viewers and i have a feeling this show will be terrible so… you’re done
This is a great idea, I don’t understand all the negative comments. I and I’m sure many other fans are very interested in the story of the Originals also, so why not have a show for them. And this show would not mean there wont be hope for Klaus and Caroline, they can guest star to potentially develop their relationship if the writers decide so. Also one more thing, why don’t you like Haley, she is such an interesting character that I would love to see more of and Phoebe Tonkin is amazing.

I would love, LOVE, to see more of originals. I would LOVE to have Klaus and Rebekah and Kol be the center of a show and not a poor little Elena, but, IN THE VAMPIRE DIARIES WITH CAROLINE and maybe savatores AROUND. KLAROLINE. do I need to say more? please, please tell me that’s a lame joke. please.
If Elijah isn’t there, I won’t be either. I’m not a fan of Klaus AT ALL, but Elijah would make it worthwhile!
Well.. I do love Klaroline LIKE A LOT and Klaus does make TVD like a million times better but I think T.O. idea would be great. Perhaps Klaus would actually find someone to love him. It’s like Buffy/Angel. Angel was on Buffy first before he got his own show, then he fell for Cordelia (most unlikely couple ever). I can see Katherine even being in the show a couple times.
