SundanceTV has released the trailer for upcoming religious drama The Name of the Rose and in it, we see a snowy murder mystery transpire among the holiest of men.
Based on Umberto Eco’s acclaimed novel of the same name, with Giacomo Battiato (Karol: A Man Who Became Pope) developing for television, 1327-set The Name of the Rose follows Franciscan monk William of Baskerville (John Turturro) and his novice Adso von Melk (Damian Hardung) as they bear witness to murders at an Italian monastery located in the Alps. The series follows William and Adso as they search for the killer while avoiding nefarious Papal inquisitor Bernard Gui (Rupert Everett).
In addition to Turturro and Hardung, The Name of the Rose stars Michael Emerson (Lost), Sebastian Koch (Homeland), James Cosmo (Game of Thrones), and Richard Sammel (The Strain). It joins a scripted slate for SundanceTV that includes Liar, Rosehaven, and upcoming comedy State of the Union.
The Name of the Rose premieres Thursday, May 23rd at 10:00 on SundanceTV.
