TV Line is reporting that FOX has given the second season of edgy family comedy The Mick a seven-episode extension, bringing its total to 20 episodes. The show’s first season, which premiered in January, wound up lasting 17 episodes.
From Dave and John Chernin (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), The Mick tells the story of Mackenzie “Mickey” Molng (Kaitlin Olson), an irresponsible grifter whose attempted scam of her affluent sister Pamela is thwarted when Pamela and her husband are arrested by the FBI. Mickey is then left in charge of Pamela’s three children and must, along with boyfriend Jimmy and Pamela’s housekeeper Alba, figure out how to keep them all alive.
In addition to Olson, The Mick stars Sofia Black-D’Elia (The Night Of), Thomas Barbusca (Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life), Carla Jimenez (Raising Hope), Scott MacArthur (Coldwater), and newcomer Jack Stanton.
This season, The Mick is retaining around 80% of its Lethal Weapon lead-in while producing sizable gains in DVR/VOD numbers. The series is part of a growing live-action comedy brand for FOX that includes lead-out Brooklyn Nine-Nine, paranormal buddy vehicle Ghosted, and post-apocalyptic ensemble The Last Man on Earth, as well as upcoming newbie LA to Vegas.
The Mick airs Tuesdays at 9:00 on FOX.
