Syfy has released the first scene of The Magicians season two and in it, we see that even in Fillory, someone in need of help can be taken advantage of.
When we last left The Magicians, Julia had struck a deal with The Beast to exact revenge upon Reynard, the trickster god who raped her and slaughtered her friends. Though on some level, Quentin wants the deity responsible for harming his best friend to face her wrath, he knows that not only is this a dangerous path Julia is walking down, one in which you can’t come back from, the terms of her agreement with The Beast are nebulous at best. There’s a very real chance that The Beast could simply dispose of Julia when all is said and done or, even worse, recruit her to join his side as some kind of minion. Quentin and Julia found their way back to one another after their spat over her rejection from Brakebills, so he’s not going to want to let her go, or face off against her, anytime soon.
Based on the Lev Grossman novel series and adapted for television by Sera Gamble (Supernatural) and John McNamara (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), The Magicians follows Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph), a graduate student who enrolls at Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy in order to harness his natural magical abilities and train among the best and brightest in the field. However, while this might be a dream for Quentin, to go somewhere he feels he belongs, he discovers that the world from his favorite childhood book series is very real – and very dangerous.
In addition to Ralph, The Magicians stars Stella Maeve (Chicago PD), Olivia Taylor Dudley (Chernobyl Diaries), Hale Appleman (Smash), Arjun Gupta (Nurse Jackie), and Summer Bishil (Lucky 7).
The second season of The Magicians is slated to premiere in 2017. A more concrete air date should be announced in the coming months.
Will you be watching The Magicians? What do you think Julia’s plan of revenge against Reynard consists of? Can Quentin succeed in keeping Julia safe from The Beast?
