Hulu has released the trailer for upcoming dramedy The Great and in it, we see a young woman not letting any obstacles come in the way of embracing her power.
From Oscar nominee Tony McNamara (The Favourite), The Great is a satirical look at the rise of future Russian ruler Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning), with season one chronicling a hopeful young girl’s arrival in Russia for an arranged marriage to Emperor Peter. Her optimism quickly dissipates when she realizes the lion’s den she’s been thrown into, a dangerous and backwards world that she’s determined to change. All she has to do is kill her husband, beat the church, baffle the military and get the court onside.
In addition to Fanning, The Great stars Nicholas Hoult (Skins), Phoebe Fox (Curfew), Adam Godley (Breaking Bad), Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody), Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall), Douglas Hodge (Joker), Sacha Dhawan (Last Tango in Halifax), Sebastian de Souza (Recovery Road), Bayo Gbadamosi (Doctor Who), and Belinda Bromilow (Spirited).
The series is part of a spring slate for Hulu that includes the return of acclaimed dramedy Ramy; the final season of sci-fi comedy Future Man; international acquisition Baghdad Central, a British crime drama taking place in Iraq; alien comedy Solar Opposites; and FX on Hulu entries Devs and Mrs. America.
The Great is set to premiere Friday, May 15th on Hulu.
