Per a tweet from series star Vicki Lawrence, FOX has cancelled retirement community comedy The Cool Kids.
The show was an okay performer in its Fridays at 8:30 slot, retaining a decent portion of the Last Man Standing audience and showing a pulse in non-linear numbers. However, FOX didn’t want to expand their live-action comedy hours, The Cool Kids wasn’t strong enough to be a comedy anchor, and the network grew enamored enough with fellow multi-cam Outmatched that they chose it over this show.
From Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), The Cool Kids followed three male friends who consider themselves the top dogs in their retirement community. However, their status is challenged by the newest community resident, a rebellious woman who might be the coolest “kid” of all.
In addition to Lawrence, The Cool Kids starred David Alan Grier, Leslie Jordan, and Martin Mull.
The series finale airs tonight on FOX.
