Even though we just crossed over into March, it’s already time to start thinking about summer TV, with Freeform becoming one of the first networks to set their plans for the warmest months of the year.
The network’s summer officially kicks off Monday, June 5th at 8:00 with the return of Shadowhunters, which wraps the first half of its second season tonight. Following at 9:00 will be the return of sci-fi crime drama Stitchers, which got its third season after a time slot downgrade and a subsequent five-month wait.
Tuesdays on Freeform this summer will consist of the fifth season of The Fosters, set to premiere July 11th at 8:00, and new series The Bold Type. To debut Tuesday, July 11th at 9:00 with a two-hour premiere, The Bold Type is a behind the scenes look at women’s magazine Scarlet and the messy, complicated, exhilarating lives of the women responsible for its success. Based on the life of Joanna Coles, chief content officer for Hearst Magazines, the series marks Freeform’s second venture into the scripted world of fashion following underrated (and deeply missed) Jane by Design.
There’s no word yet on whether Freeform will have any comedy presence during the summer, though Young & Hungry and Baby Daddy will be premiering their next seasons later this month. Since the two are taking over for Shadowhunters on Mondays and Freeform has been backing away from using scripted content on Wednesdays, they might have to wait for the Monday summer dramas to conclude before returning to the schedule.
Additionally, this will be the first summer Freeform is without Pretty Little Liars since the show’s debut in 2010. It’ll be wrapping its run this year after debuting its last 10 episodes in April.
