I swear there are more ads on this site every time I come here! Please. Stop. They interfere with reading the content I actually came for – TV news. And they certainly don’t make the site look professional.
If we are going to talk about “professionalism” here, “Kim,” remember that websites are a business. Running the website costs money. Having the servers up, being able to live on this to keep up with covering TV professionally. That means there have to be ads to stay afloat. You are getting the service of visiting this site for free, and I might remind you that any and all TV websites have many ads, some with many more than you’ll find on this site.
With that said… I’m constantly going to re-evaluate what works and what doesn’t, and if I find that the ads do not perform, I’d rather get rid of several and stick to what does. But the notion of expecting an ad-free environment on any website is naive and a bit rude. Would you like for me to go to your place of employment and say that I don’t think you should get paid?
Whoa, dude….of course I know websites are a business. I never said you should be ad-free – hardly any site is. But, I have been seeing more and more ads, and a lot of them actually turn up warnings from my anti-virus software. Sometimes I get a browser redirect when coming to this site, though it hasn’t happened in the most recent weeks. Again, no one says you have to be ad-free. It’s just that some ads are disruptive, like pop-ups that are hard to get rid of, or an ad that auto-plays some loud video (I always have my speakers off because these have become so common on the web in recent years.)…..things like that. Thursday, there was ad at the bottom of the screen that took over when I accidentally waved my cursor over it and I got frustrated at it showing up on all the pages. I don’t want to install an ad-blocker plug-in on my browser because those come with other issues, but today I was considering it because of the frustration.
I’m really trying to make this the best site-visiting experience possible, and that could involve getting rid of some of the newer ads if they don’t perform… but I have to try. Please have patience during this time.
(I also am looking into getting rid of that ad at the bottom first if it doesn’t perform, because to be honest, I kind of hate it too. If I could disable that one in particular right now, I’d jump at the chance, but I first have to figure out what advertiser it is.)
Please don’t employ Adblock here because that is pretty much stealing the content and bandwidth that I have to pay for.
