Deadline is reporting that E! has cancelled romantic thriller The Arrangement after two seasons.
“Over two seasons, E!’s scripted series The Arrangement has taken viewers inside the world of an A-list movie star filled with secrets, scandal and romance. While we have decided not to move forward with the series, we are incredibly grateful to the cast and our production partners,” an E! spokesperson said in a statement.
Ratings for The Arrangement were down over 30% this year as the show moved to 9:00 and faced a glut of competition this spring ranging from American Idol to The Walking Dead and Westworld. However, the cancellation is a surprise given its numbers are on par with lead-out The Royals, itself mired in the controversy surrounding creator and former showrunner Mark Schwahn, and the show still had positive buzz for its creative. Even though E! still has scripted pilots in contention, one has to wonder whether they’ll be reducing their scripted presence in the wake of Peak TV.
From Jonathan Abrahams (Mad Men), The Arrangement told the story of the contracted relationship between aspiring actress Megan Morrison (Christine Evangelista) and A-list star Kyle West (Josh Henderson). The series chronicled the influence that the Institute of the Higher Mind, an organization not entirely unlike the Church of Scientology that Kyle was the face of, had on their relationship, as well as the struggles of Megan and Kyle to truly connect and the negative impact the Hollywood machine can have on already damaged individuals.
The series finale of The Arrangement aired earlier this month on E!.
