TNT has moved up the premiere of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, it was announced Thursday. Originally slated to debut Sunday, July 26th, the sequel to The Alienist will now roll out beginning Sunday, July 19th at 9:00. Instead of airing weekly, Angel of Darkness will be turned into a four-week event with two episodes per week.
Continuing from where The Alienist left off, The Alienist: Angel of Darkness follows former secretary Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) as she opens her own detective agency and, along with Dr. Kreizler (Daniel Bruhl) and John Moore (Luke Evans), tackles the case of the kidnapped daughter of the Spanish Consular. As with the original series, Angel of Darkness shines a light on the provocative issues of the era – the corruption of institutions, income inequality, yellow press sensationalism, and the role of women in society.
In addition to Fanning, Bruhl, and Evans, the series stars Douglas Smith (Big Little Lies), Matthew Shear (Mistress America), Robert Ray Wisdom (The Wire), Ted Levine (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Melanie Field (Heathers), and Rosy McEwen (The Letter Writer). It’s part of a scripted slate for TNT that includes Animal Kingdom, Snowpiercer, and Claws, with the latter headed into its final season.
