The CW has announced that they have renewed post-apcalyptic drama The 100 for a fifth season, the latest early renewal for a network that has decided the fate of almost every show on their roster.
Averaging a 70% boost in total viewers, 73% boost in adults 18-34, and 86% boost in adults 18-49 in Live+7 numbers vs. its Live+SD delivery, The 100 was a fairly easy renewal for The CW. Not only has it been doing numbers similar to also renewed Jane the Virgin and Riverdale against stiff competition, it gives the network a reliable midseason player that pairs well with Arrow and infuses the network’s lineup with a fresh injection of buzz whenever it premieres. The only real question surrounding The 100‘s fate was creator Jason Rothenberg having a pilot in contention, but if fantasy drama Searchers does get ordered to series, Deadline says that Rothenberg will remain showrunner at The 100 while possibly getting a co-showrunner to help manage the workload.
With The Vampire Diaries and Reign set to end their runs this season, the only CW shows with their fates left up in the air are The Originals, iZombie, Frequency, and No Tomorrow. The former two haven’t premiered yet this season, though iZombie is a very likely renewal considering that The CW doesn’t cancel third season shows and it’ll have the Flash lead-in, while the two fall newbies will have to hope for some serious traction on Netflix if they have any hope of squeezing out a renewal.
The 100 airs Wednesdays at 9:00 on The CW.
