A New Terminator TV Series May Be On The Way

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is often listed by fans as one of those series that came and went too soon. Today comes news that two writer-producers from that series, Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz, are giving the franchise another go, as writers and executive producers for a new Terminator television series that is in development.

terminator-posterThis time, it’s Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures, the production companies behind Paramount’s upcoming Terminator movie reboot, behind the project, and it is said to follow a critical moment from the first Terminator film. “Where the film’s story goes one way, the upcoming television show will take that same moment in a completely different direction,” THR says. It is expected that the movie and TV franchises will have intersecting narratives.

Also producing for this potential series are Annapurna’s Megan Ellison with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross from Skydance. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, who are writing the first new Terminator movie, will be executive producers.

From the many reports about this posted today, it does not appear that a network has been lined up yet.

Wow just finished watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles for the first time and I have to say it really was a breath of fresh air, had me totally absorbed right from the first episode through to the last, in fact it seemed to be getting better and better until it was cancelled.

It’s only been five years since it was cancelled so yeah I would also like to see the series revived again with the same actors/actresses please.

Okay, this is great if it is true, but this was originally posted in December, and we’re now in April. Where’s the update on the TV show? Is anyone actually going to do this? This was one of my all-time favorite shows, with amazing characters & acting. It sickened me the way the network canceled it and left us twisting in the wind about where the story was going to go. From everything I’ve read on the Internet, the reasons for canceling this wonderful series were pretty lame: production costs, wanting to air “Dollhouse” (a show I haven’t heard a damn peep from anyone about), some legal battle about an outstanding loan, etc. Look how long it has been since the show got canceled, and people are STILL talking wanting it back. Isn’t that a clue to some producer or company out there that there is a market for this show? As a writer myself, I think nothing is more tragic than to have a compelling story like this one end before it can finish being told. If I had the means, know-how, and money, I would bring it back myself. I wish someone who does would take real action–not just talk about it and give the fans false hope every few months, but actually take action and really bring it back before the actors age too much or one of the original cast members becomes permanently unavailable. I think I can speak for most fans of the show when I say that we want them to go ahead and resurrect this from where we left off in season two, same actors, same story. Back to the Future 2 & 3 were made a few years after the first movie with success, so this could be done, too. But had Back to the Future waited a few years longer, Michael J Fox would’ve been set with Parkinson’s disease, and it would have been too late. I don’t want something like that to happen with TSSC too because of dillydallying and redtape. Is there a rooftop somewhere that I need to stand on and shout “Give me TSS see season three?” I would much rather have the TV show, but at this point, I will settle for a movie, even if it’s direct to DVD, just to get the rest of the story. What can we say, what can we do to make this happen? We need closure. We need the rest of the story! Is anyone out there who can & really will do something? Please, please, please, give us back the show!
