The seventh season of Supernatural begins on The CW September 23, and the series remains one of the strongest entries on The CW schedule.
At the TCA Summer Press Tour this week, CW President Mark Pedowitz was asked if Supernatural is headed toward a conclusion.
“It is not intended to be the last season,” Pedowitz said. “We will see where the ratings go. I personally hope, and I think we all at The CW hope, that this show keeps on going. So at the moment we look at one season at a time.”
Pedowitz credits the “love of two brothers” part of the concept as the reason why the show has had such long-lasting success. “It’s not about the demon of the week. It’s about the love of two brothers and these two really good‑looking guys. And I think that transcends the supernatural piece at the end of the day,” he said.
When we spoke at a roundtable with showrunner Sera Gamble at Comic-Con, she did say they have ideas for the show’s continuation. “We communicate in an ongoing basis with the studio, and we would hope they’d give us early warning. We plot responsibly. We have ideas, should the show continue for several seasons, and we have ideas, should we not get to – I don’t want to say a specific number of seasons, because that “Five Year Plan” thing has been haunting us a little bit. But yes. We’re being responsible. We promise,” she said.

That’s encouraging. I’m a bit behind, only on the 6th season, but I would’ve been perfectly content if the series had ended at the end of the 5th season. Well, let’s keep plugging away! So long as they don’t run out of interesting *new* plot-lines/overarching plot-lines, I’ll keep watching!
