Both Supernatural alums Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki woke up to good news today, as The CW has ordered pilots for both the Supernatural prequel The Winchesters as well as the Walker prequel spinoff Walker: Independence.
Jensen Ackles, his wife Danneel, and Supernatural alum Robbie Thompson are behind The Winchesters, which focuses on John and Mary, husband and wife… oh wait, that’s just the song. This story is actually “the epic love story of how they met and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.” It will be told through the perspective of narrator Jensen Ackles’ Dean Winchester, we’re assuming from up in Heaven.
Walker: Independence comes from Jared Padalecki and is written by Seamus Fahey based on a story by Fahey and Anna Fricke. The series is set in the late 1800s and follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. On her quest for revenge, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, where they encounter diverse, eclectic residents running from their own troubled pasts and chasing their dreams. Their newfound family will struggle with the changing world around them, while becoming agents of change themselves in a town where nothing is what it seems. And, yes, those names are pretty familiar to Walker fans, aren’t they?
These pilot orders are in addition to Gotham Knights which was also announced today. The CW has ordered more scripts for their potential Zorro project as well. All of these pilots are in contention for slots in The CW 2021-2022 schedule.
