Tonight, The CW airs season finale episodes for their freshman hit The Vampire Diaries as well as the inching-toward-the-Apocalypse Supernatural. Both finales promise to be game-changers, and both are said to include (spoiler alert!) character deaths.
The CW’s Thursday night lineup for 2009-2010 has been one of the network’s rare success stories for the year. Overshadowed by the hype for Melrose Place, The Vampire Diaries still managed to start big and quickly grew a following. It helps that executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec have turned LJ Smith’s novels into a fantastic story full of unexpected connections.
Supernatural has continued to keep a devoted fan base and the end of Eric Kripke’s 5-season apocalypse arc is scheduled to conclude with tonight’s season finale, titled “Swan Song.” When Supernatural returns next year, Kripke will be stepping down as showrunner, to be replaced by Supernatural vet Sera Gamble.
