FOX has officially cancelled live-action/animated comedy Son of Zorn after one 13-episode season. The first new series to premiere this season, Zorn looked to be in okay position thanks to a protected time slot behind The Simpsons; while it wasn’t putting up amazing numbers, the football halo it received allowed it to stay fairly competitive for a time slot next season. That is, until the regular football overrun ended and made Zorn look less viable, particularly given the amount of production time necessary to complete new episodes.
Created by Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne (Wilfred) and showran by Sally Bradford McKenna (The Grinder), Son of Zorn told the story of Zorn (voiced by Jason Sudeikis), an animated warrior from the fictional South Pacific island of Zephyria. Following a battle with his enemies, Zorn moves to Orange County looking to reconnect with his teenage son Alan and newly engaged ex-wife Edie; though Zorn is mostly rejected upon his first venture to California, he decides to get a job and apartment in town so that he can get to know the family he abandoned long ago.
In addition to Sudeikis, Son of Zorn starred Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live), Johnny Pemberton (Superstore), and Artemis Pebdani (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).
The series finale of Son of Zorn aired Sunday, February 19th on FOX. The network will be unveiling its plans for fall 2017 on Monday, May 15th.
