Tom Welling Future With The CW?

Another subject that was brought up at the Executive Session at the TCA Summer 2011 Press Tour for The CW was if Smallville star Tom Welling had anything in development for the network. (You may remember that, in addition to starring in and serving as an executive producer for Smallville, he was also an executive producer for Hellcats)

No news yet, but this is what The CW’s President, Mark Pedowitz, had to say:

“I know Tom is probably in development right now. I do hope he comes back to The CW, and I do hope he comes with a show that he wants to star in. We would be very receptive to the whole thing.”

Is in production code for he’s working on something. Hope so!

    2. Andrew on Aug 5, 2011 11:25 pm

A Smallville spinoff titled something like… Smallville: Justice Leauge would be nice. Mainly with The Blur/Superman, Impulse/The Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Watchtower/Chloe.
I know this is what everyone (who has just heard of the show even) is wanting, and I think this could go for at least a few seasons if not more. We need the original cast back btw.
Honestly, I would like to see Impulse become Kid Flash in the show and I want to see what they do costume wise.

I’m not sure if Tom Welling is still want to star in a TV Series related to Smallville. I mean, as an actor, it will be boring for him to only stick in one role or one type of character. Or even one type of TV Series.

All good actors always want to explore their ability. So, as a fan who believes that Tom is a good actor, I want to see him back and star a different TV Series. Maybe drama or something like that. Or on horror or supernatural themes of TV Shows?

    4. Brandon on Aug 6, 2011 2:09 am

I would love to see some sort of Justice League spin off. They have to know, as popular as smallville was people would watch it. As long as they don’t do something boneheaded and not as Tom Welling as Superman.

    5. T J Pledgyno on Aug 6, 2011 2:30 am

I do support the idea of Andrew, having a spinoff with the original cast will be a blast, we will all want to see lana lang and jonathan Kent back as regulars

    6. Padraigh on Aug 6, 2011 2:36 am

Oh PLEASE let this happen a Smallville spinoff after 10 years it deserves one, an EPIC show

    7. Veronica on Aug 6, 2011 8:40 am

Smallville deserve a spin off. the series showed good characters and not use some in another TV show is a waste.
      use supergirl could be nice.

    8. Welling's Fan on Aug 6, 2011 9:14 am

WOW!!!! I’m all for a Smallville spinoff with original cast!!! Would love to see Green Arrow and Hawkman again!! Supergirl, Black Canary, Aguaman, Impulse becoming The Flash, Cyborg, the Legion, etc. even Blue Beetle. With special guests from Metropolis including CK, Lois Lane and Perry White. This would be a great move for The CW.

    9. Indasy on Aug 6, 2011 10:18 am

@Ranu Some actors also like being an icon from being associated with a particular character. A steady consistant paycheck doen’t hurt either.

Remember the movie “The Fog” he starred in? I want a Justice League spin-off.

    10. pics on Aug 7, 2011 4:24 am

I’m happy for him, if he has other projects. I hope he will work with other channel than the CW. Sorry but this channel has a bad behavior with Smallville and Hellcats.

    11. malft on Aug 8, 2011 6:18 am

Tom will grow a mustache and reboot Magnum PI

    12. Holly on Aug 9, 2011 10:50 am

I would love to see Tom back on any TV series or a spin-off of Smallville with him and Erica. I would only want that though if the Smallville producers were NOT involved, considering over the years, they made the show more about Lana, Lex, and Chloe than about CLARK KENT who was the entire reason for the series to begin with! Most viewers would not have tuned into Smallville, with all the other characters, if it weren’t an origin story for SUPERMAN.

So, the disrespect that was shown the character of Clark Kent and in several seasons, Lois Lane, I would not like to see repeated. Thus, I would be VERY excited to see a Superman show with writers and producers who CARED about Clark Kent as much as the fans do! Or even a show about the Justice League with Tom, Erica, Michael, Phil, Justin, etc. Watch Tower should just be a computer voice, not a person. So, the show could still primarily be about Superman and have Clark Kent reporting and doing personal things on a regular basis.

      That would be AWESOME!!

    13. Craig Byrne on Aug 9, 2011 11:43 am

What about all the time the show was more about Lois than it was Clark Kent? Seems a bit of a double standard to call out Lana/Lex/Chloe… especially Lex, when the show was supposed to be about the rise of Clark Kent and the fall of Lex Luthor.

    14. Ranu @ MyDailyPlanet on Aug 12, 2011 1:28 am

      @lndasy

      Yes, consistent paycheck doesn’t hurt…
I’m not against spin-off actually, just think that boredom was the reason why Michael Rosenbaum left Smallville. Maybe Tom felt the same way.

But having Smallville’s spin-off with Tom Welling would be great for me…

    15. Dork Inc. on Sep 1, 2011 9:39 am

I’d have to say anything DC character that had an origion episode should get a series. Green Arrow, Hawk Man, Aquaman, Cyborg, Supergirl. would more than likely have good spinoffs. Who know’s lets hope for the best. And hope Tom Welling has a plot for a really good show that will hit the big screen later on. =D All smiles to that!

    16. Gary bell on Sep 7, 2011 9:14 pm

Since Tom welling as superman in smallville fulfilled his destiny why don’t they have the adventures of superman like they did with superboy and the classic tv show with george reeves

    17. tom taylor on Oct 4, 2011 9:05 pm

the smartest thing the cw could do is at least a green arrow spinoff, with the jla heroes all making cameo’s…
and have welling make 2 or three yearly appearances*
that way he can still pursue other rolls!
very easy to start a green arrow series,i trully wish someone at the cw would read what is put up on this site*
      thankyou
hope they here our cries for more from the birth of smallville

    18. darKman on Oct 9, 2011 5:19 am

Love to see a green arrow spin-off with the original cast from smallville, and ratings will be great comparing to garbage ratings CW shows get now,lot of smallville,dc comics fans will tune in for sure

    19. Austin on Oct 12, 2011 9:19 am

A Smallville spinoff with the original cast would be awsome!!!!

    20. Adrian on Oct 21, 2011 11:24 am

How about Tom as Matt Dillon in a Gunsmoke remake with Erica as Kitty?

    21. Craig Byrne on Oct 21, 2011 12:05 pm

Shouldn’t the two of them work with different people?

    22. margot on Jan 6, 2012 5:58 am

I would love to see Tom in an episode of “Once”. With his incredible looks and wonderful acting he would certainly make for someone’s happily ever after.

    25. DORA EDITH TELCEL on Sep 5, 2012 5:51 am

I would love to see Tom back on any TV series
That would be AWESOME! I love the way he acts.

    26. Brianna on Sep 21, 2012 10:56 pm

I am excited to see the Green Arrow Spin off show. “Arrow”, but I am dissappointed that it isnt Justin Hartley. I am hoping that they keep some of the original casting carried over from Smallville. It is depressing to get so atttached to a certain face matched to a certain character, to see it switched to different people not only on Tv, but also in the movies that they come out with… We are just too bounced around from new face to new face. No one has made a great Superman like Clark, but I can understand if he didnt want to. But what about the others, The only two people who put in enough time to throw the towel in were Clark, Chloe, Lois and Lex. They are long time full time every-episode type of characters. The JL characters should be tranferable I think. They did great casting, hopefully they dont waste it… Would definitely love to see Tom Welling do something new and creative on any channel, but CW has done great things with him in the past. Been a long time fan of the show and cant wait to see where they all land career wise now that the show is over.
