Smallville series finaleThe CW has announced that Smallville will have a two-hour series finale on Friday, May 13, 2011.

Here’s the press release from the network:

February 7, 2011 (Burbank, California) – The CW will present the series finale of SMALLVILLE as an epic two-hour television event on Friday, May 13 (8:00-10:00 p.m. ET.)

The story of a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) and his journey to become the Man of Steel has captivated audiences for a decade. This final season, Clark attempts to find a balance between saving the world, which becomes even more difficult as the Vigilante Registration Act separates a nation, and spending time with his new fiancée Lois Lane (Erica Durance). Whether it’s donning glasses as a disguise, changing in a phone booth or learning how to fly, this season has put Clark closer to his destiny than ever before. Taking on Darkseid and battling the darkest of his demons, this two-hour event will send Clark soaring towards his birthright to secure his place in history as the world’s greatest protector.

“Paying homage to 10 seasons is no small task, and wrapping up each character and story arc has been extremely important to everyone involved in the show,” said executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders. “We’re excited to be able to make the final moments of SMALLVILLE a television event, as the character we’ve grown up with makes his legendary transformation.”

Please note SUPERNATURAL will be pre-empted on May 13 but will return with a two-hour season finale on Friday, May 20 (8:00-10:00 p.m. ET.)

      21&22, right? Not 22.1 & 22.2.

    2. Joe on Feb 7, 2011 2:20 pm

That’s what I want to know!
Will it be a 23 hour season?

    3. B on Feb 7, 2011 2:29 pm

YES!!! A two-hour season finale is a terrific send-off for Clark Kent becoming Superman. This show will be greatly missed once it’s all said & done. Smallville is simply the best show ever!!!

    4. WellingFan on Feb 7, 2011 3:52 pm

Brilliant!!! This is going to be epic!

    5. John on Feb 7, 2011 5:06 pm

Wait wait wait…Two Hour finales for Smallville AND Supernatural? The Supernatural bit’s just snuck in there! (And it says season, not series…)

    6. Jeff on Feb 7, 2011 5:22 pm

Okay, on May 13 we are getting a 2 hour Series Finale for Smallville, as in an extended Finale, (23 episodes in the season, not 22)

Because of this, Supernatural has to have their season finale the following week on the 20th, and because of this, they will air episodes 21 and 22 TOGETHER back to back.

So, Smallville gets a true, extended finale (like they did with “commencement”), while Supernatural is just combining episodes 21 and 22 together to make one long finale.

    7. Jeff on Feb 7, 2011 7:03 pm

Whoops, I missed your post, Tucker, and it seems you are correct in that it isn’t 22.1 and 22.2, but actually 21 and 22 together to form a 2 hour finale.

    8. Rox on Feb 7, 2011 8:43 pm

Of course the season finale of smallville will be epic, especially since it will be 2 hours of superman bliss. This new announcement of the season finale on May 13 is making me sad I’ve been a loyal smallville fan for ten long years!

yaaaaaaaaayyyyy!!! a two hour series finale woo-hoo! but yeah, is it really gonna be a “two episode put together like ‘absolute justice'” two hour series finale, or a “separate one episode” two hour series finale? man, i hope it’s the latter! but still, a great, yet sad, news since “smallville” is finally coming to a close. make it big, welling, peterson, and sauders! make it big!(HUMS ICONIC “SUPERMAN THEME”)

Lex MUST be involved in the finale. The show started out as being a mirror journey of two men and their intwined destinies. The show used to be just as much about Lex’s journey to darkness as it was Clark’s journey to becoming Superman. Lex’s journey got cut short and it must be completed to have a complete story. Lex is Clark’s ultimate nemesis and his character can not be left off with his supposed death. Lex can’t die, at least not for a long time. I don’t care what they have to pay Rosenbaum to come back. They owe it to the story and to the fans to get Rosenbaum back. If he doesn’t want to shave his head then fine. I don’t care if he has to wear a cheap looking bald cap. It’s better than not having him in it at all.

not happy with the 2-hour finale! i am hoping for 2 more season extension or a sequel before he became superman. come on writers squeeze your minds.

Smallville is the only show that I watch on TV. I will miss it. I am also very angry that Welling was not chosen for the movie that I am now boycotting! Thanks for 10 years!

SMALLVILLE IS, I HAVE TO ADMIT MY ALL TIME FAVORITE TV SERIES. I KNOW ALL GOOD THINGS HAVE TO COME TO AN END, BUT I WAS HOPING FOR AT LEAST A FEW MORE GOOD YEARS.. THE SHOW WAS INTELLIGENT ,ABSORBING AND HAD MORAL VALUE.IN THIS WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN, WITH WARS, ECONOMIC COLLAPSE, INDIVIDUAL AND GOVERNMENTAL CORRUPTION, SMALLVILLE WAS A WELCOMED RELEASE FROM A DAY TO DAY FIGHT , TO KEEP MY HEAD ABOVE THE PROVERBIAL WATERS OF LIFE. BRAVO TO THE WRITERS,EDITORS, AND PRODUCERS OF THIS SHOW. AND TO THE ACTORS, DOUBLE KUDOS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS WITHOUT THEM THE SHOW WOULD HAVE BEEN ANOTHER MEDIOCRE SCI-FI SHOW. WITH HEAVY HEART, I SAY SO LONG CK,CLOIE,LOIS,OLIVER,DOC,LEX,LIONEL,MARTHA,JOHNITHAN,AND THE REST OF THE GANG. GOD SPEED AND GOOD LUCK ……..C.T.
