A tenth season of Smallville is happening on The CW.

    Here’s the network press release:

The CW Network has announced that its hit series “Smallville” will return in the fall of 2010 for a momentous tenth season.

“Smallville,” a modern retelling of the Superman legend, stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent. The series moved to Friday nights this season, where it currently ranks as network television’s #1 show in its time period among men 18-34 and men 18-49. Additionally, “Smallville” has dramatically improved The CW’s ratings performance in its Friday 8:00-9:00p.m.time period by 67% among adults 18-34 (1.5/6), 200% in men 18-34 (1.8/7), 75% in adults 18-49 (1.4/5), 183% in men 18-49 (1.7/6) and 74% in total viewers (3.12million).

“Smallville” joins the five previously announced series – “The Vampire Diaries,” “Gossip Girl,” “90210,” “Supernatural” and “America’s Next Top Model” – which will all return for another season on The CW.

“Smallville” was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (“Shanghai Noon,” “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”), based on the DC Comics characters. Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television. SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Fantastic news. I’ve been loving season 9 and wanted a season 10 so badly! Now, tell me that Erica will be up for 22 episodes and it will be perfect! I love Lois and Clark. They are the best part of the series.

    2. 'Super' Steve on Mar 4, 2010 3:33 pm

Yes! Finally! But no news if it will be the final season. kAnd it’ll have the 200th episode.

    3. Paul on Mar 4, 2010 3:57 pm

YES! Great news… I was hoping, I was pretty confident, but to know it’s definitely gonna happen is wonderful!

    4. tyson on Mar 4, 2010 4:02 pm

Finally is right! Glad to know that information and now I can enjoy the rest of the season in peace! Season 9 has been terrific and I’m sure the 10th (and hopefully final) season will not disappoint! Going out with a bang!

    5. Corfy on Mar 4, 2010 7:42 pm

So glad to hear Smallville will be back. It is definitely my favorite show on television, and I’m not ready to see it go away just yet.

    6. Informant on Mar 5, 2010 6:41 am

Great news. I have to say, these past two seasons have been like watching a new series. There seems to be more purpose and direction in the storylines (aside from one or two hiccups). I’m glad to see the show come back. Isn’t Geoff Johns high enough in the DC chain of command now to let them use some of those forbidden elements, like the “S” word (…um… Superman)? I’d love to see a Smallville-ized version of Superman. Not the comic or movie version though.

Also, this gives the CW one more year to do what they should have been doing the past two years. Develop a proper Smallville replacement, to cater to this show’s fans once Smallville ends. A spinoff would work (no wacky Robin idea or Birds Of Prey. We have material to work with here!). They have options, like Green Arrow, Justice League, or Watchtower (which would have a lot of freedom since Chloe isn’t a comic character). Even a Suicide Squad series could be interesting, if done right.

Point is, Smallville is a strong performer for the CW, which is in desperate need of strong performers. Once this show ends, how likely is it that the Smallville audience will just hop over to Gossip Girl? Not likely. We don’t know how long Supernatural is going to last either, which means that this whole demographic could soon be lost.

LETS HOPE TO HELL THAT THEY DO AWAY WITH THAT RIDULOUS (NO FLIGHTS, NO TIGHTS) B……T.

    10. SuperQuinn on Mar 6, 2010 1:29 am

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on Smallville!!!!!!!! Fighting to live another day, I’m so glad the fans are responding to the challenges of TV show war fare and is proving to be an everlasting timeless classic. We love it!!!!!!!

    11. David on Mar 6, 2010 4:02 pm

Not sure what to make of this…the lack of a clear storyline has caused me to stop watching since Pandora. I do hope TPTB will get some semblance of a coherent storyline back, and have the characters start acting like their characters. I don’t even recognize Chloe or Clark at this point.

    12. Joe on Mar 7, 2010 1:39 am

Smallville is my favorite tv show. I’m happy to hear that it will stick around. I agree, that there is nothing comparable on tv. Also, I agree that the show has gotten off-track, lately. I’m not sure what’s behind the madness. I am eager to see the Zod and the Candorians plot get resolved, yet they keep on making these irrelevant goofy episodes, that simply make you roll your eyes. I want to see Clark learn to fly, even if I never get to see him don the cape. p.s. Guild pleasure bigtime: Zatarra, super hot :)

    13. Informant on Mar 7, 2010 8:44 am

The Clark/Chloe relationship reminds me a little bit of the Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson relationship. As Dick grew up, he became more than just Batman’s sidekick. There were different styles which conflicted, and eventually, Dick branched off on his own. Chloe was Clark’s sidekick for years, but she’s growing beyond that and becoming a hero of her own. Now we’re at a point where we have two leaders instead of a leader and a sidekick. Two leaders in a battlefield will lead to tension and conflict, even if they are best friends. I think it’s a logical and reasonable evolutions.

When it comes to the Zod/Kandorian storyline, I think I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum. I was worried that they would over do the arc, and too many Kryptonians would get on my nerves. As it is, I actually find myself liking Clark’s relationship with some of the Kandorians.

    14. JohnnySaysSo on Mar 7, 2010 11:20 am

It wouldn’t bother me a bit if this series had a run as long as Gunsmoke. But if season ten happens to be the end of the incredible show, I hope the writers have the guts to send it off properly. A little John Williams, anyone.

    15. James Wright on Mar 7, 2010 11:31 am

Great news Smallville is my favorite show on t.v. But I want to see clark learn to fly it is something that should have already happened. I would like to know why no S.V. for two weeks even if they are reruns is this some shady event. Hope not.

    16. Ben on Mar 8, 2010 7:10 am

      Great news :P

Now, if he’s high up enough to give the name Superman, surely he’s high enough to give us the true greatest hero: The Dark Knight :P Supes is amazing and I love Smallville and the characters dearly, but it has been held back by it’s replacing Bruce with Ollie in terms of Clark’s hero relations. Bring in the bat :P

    17. meg on Mar 8, 2010 3:46 pm

thank god!!!!!! i have one year of high school left and i dont think i would be able to get through my senior year with out smallville and supernatural! between college stuff and other crap, it would break my heart to know i wont have my two hours a week of PEACE. when the last issue of smallville came out i got soo scared that this would be the last season but i can finally breath again. so thanks to the people who make my two hours of peace and relaxation possible!! <3

    18. H. B. Williams on Mar 9, 2010 6:11 pm

When is Clark ever going to fly? I’m really getting tired of waiting for him to go up, up and away…I mean, Lex Luthor is dead, he’s a reporter at the Daily Planet dating Lois Lane…how much closer to the comic book can you get?

    19. Y. B. Joshi on Mar 9, 2010 8:11 pm

i m sooooo happy that smallville is finally returning for its 10th season. it will be really exciting to see the chemistry between tom and erica and clark to soar through the clouds.

    20. april on Mar 10, 2010 6:34 am

i just want to know wat excatly happen to lana cuz i quite watching cuz it got me so lost and confussed. i still watch now and then and still dont have a clue wats going on.they need to get back on track or there gona lose more viewers and im a major fan. own all the seasons but the 8 th and now i really dont care if i complet my set or not its that way off track.

    21. CHris on Mar 10, 2010 5:12 pm

Thank Goodness. Smallville has reached so many viewers over the years. I have watched it ever since Roswell got canceled in 2001 and I was looking for a drama with a nice moral fibre and a sci-fi element. Smallville delivered big time. Love this show even if they do struggle at times.. I have suported Smallville by buying the Dvds, I have every Smallville magazine, all the Smallville official companions and comics as well. I’m lookiong into the trading cards.. A great show will be remembered by the mark it leaves on it’s fans and in written history. I will tune in every week! Thank you CW..

    22. nidufias on Mar 11, 2010 4:32 am

A million thanks to CW. My friends and I from Malaysia have never missed a single episode since the first season. The chemistry between Tom and Erica is awesome. The last two seasons really bring the best out of smallville. Keep up the good job. Two thumbs up for smallville.

    23. Steve on Mar 11, 2010 7:31 pm

      yay thxs cw

    24. Thelby on Mar 13, 2010 2:36 am

Yee Haw! I have been a fan of Superman since George Reeves played the part,….. yes, I am that old ;^) Now this should over take X-Files as having the most episodes for a Sci-Fi series and tie SG1 as the most seasons with 10!!! Fantastic News Guys!!!

    25. Kristin on Mar 14, 2010 11:23 am

Incredible. I am impressed with the loyal fan base since I’ve heard so many things about Smallville and how some people wish it would end already. But I am excited to see so many other loyal fans looking forward to a tenth year! Congratulations, Smallville!

    26. Jenna on Mar 16, 2010 6:31 am

Love to hear it, just also wish he would start the flying and what in the world happened to chloe?? She turned into this super brat… and is almost the villian??

    27. Pat - Ric Nasty on Mar 17, 2010 11:43 am

I love this show and I am happy to see it go forward on it’s 10th season.

    28. jimmy on Mar 17, 2010 9:32 pm

Just curious, what ever happened to Kara????
She just flew off saying that she needs to be on her own for a while and she was never heard from again… It’s not like her character died off they just cut her loose. There hasn’t even been a link between Clark and Kara such as a phone call explaining how kara is or where. Just would like to see that connection again. And can’t wait to see the 10th season been watching since the beginning and a true fan, clark needs to start flying already and be addressed as superman–one more thing, would like a new character to be brought in possibly for the finale of season 10(the dark knight)

    29. supa lon on Mar 18, 2010 7:01 pm

smallville is the best show on tv.. Come on clark make ur big move with lois!!! 10th season!!!! yes!!

    30. c. j. on Mar 19, 2010 4:32 pm

Bring on the Dark Knight or let Smallville R.I.P.!

    31. Christopher Clark on Mar 22, 2010 9:01 am

Thank god smallville has been renewed for a 10th season, I just hope it goes on for 12, and I would realy like to see a new character such as the dark night or Darkseid.

    32. Biff on Mar 24, 2010 12:52 pm

Give it a rest already, talk about milking something to death.

    33. Rob on Mar 25, 2010 12:57 am

@Biff, didn’t you end up washing McFly’s car at the end of “Back to the Future?”
Smallville has made its mark among cherished series like Xfiles SG1 and others. It has entertained us for nearly a decade. I am thrilled we get at least one more season.

    34. Mark on Mar 28, 2010 2:29 pm

I’m glad they got picked up, BUT I wish that the producers would take the length of the series in their own hands and announce (and stick to it) that Smallville will end at the 10th season. I love this show, and would HATE for it to die. I want it to end successfully, with writers writing an actual ending to this series instead of it just fading away.

Additionally, it could bring in the talent of previous years, it would also bring fans back to the show who have gotten annoyed/lost interest/busy, etc. Imagine what ER did, or Friends did. Announce an end, and write for that, and go out with a bang with the people who love the show in the drivers seat, instead of Dawn at CW deciding it’s future fate.

    35. LYNN on Mar 29, 2010 8:11 pm

I have watched Smallville since it’s inception, or birth if you wish. Since then I have started so many friends and relatives to join me it the wonderful growth of the characters especially the “great chemistry ” between Lois and Clarke. They are now addicted also.
Keep Smallville on for as long as you can but!
When is Clarke going to fly?

I am an older fan as well as my friends. So I think every age enjoys the show!

    36. Angie on Apr 3, 2010 4:43 am

I’m an almost 40 yr old divorced Mother of a special needs son, and Smallville (along with Supernatural which I started watching simply because of Jensen aka Jason Teague) is like my little piece of Heaven at the end of the week, and it has been since the very first episode!!

I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I’ve been with the last 2 seasons. The show has seemed to come to a turning point, and while I will always miss Lex (because of the amazing Michael Rosenbaum – and pray he comes back for at least the end of the series *hopes*), I’m thrilled for a 10th season!!!

    37. subarna on Apr 4, 2010 2:35 pm

Very good news to all smallville loyals all around the globe but i don’t want season 10 to be the last season either. hope there will be lots more. i could watch this show forever. thank CW and keep them coming. YESSSSSSS.

    38. Jason on Apr 8, 2010 11:23 am

Glad to hear Season 9 won’t a rush to the finish line story for a series finale. However, I do hope next year is the last season. Having been committed to this show for almost 10 years now, I’ve seen it go through some ups and downs but and even though I’m still enjoying it, the current story line has drifted far from the shows roots. I understand that every coming of age story has to go through changes, even for superheros, but dragging this out even further would have an adverse impact on the show’s legacy, and frankly, on the legacy of Superman himself. It’s been a great run, but it’s time to quite while you’re still ahead.

And also, I hope they get Michael Rosenbaum back for the last few episodes, or at least the finale. It’s hard to forsee a sucessful ending without him.

    39. gina on Apr 9, 2010 6:56 pm

love SV but the story line is getting boring. did not enjoy this season as previous ones. sorry lois/clark fans…just not feeling the chemisty between those two. michael rosenbaum best lex luthor..just simply loved/hated him. very good looking too. i’m in my 50’s so it’s not just for younger viewers. should have kept lana/clark relationship. and oliver queen and lois had chemistry. lionel & jimmy..what’s up with killing him off.
