Despite the backlash that accompanied the show’s third season finale, Sleepy Hollow has been renewed for a fourth season by FOX. The show’s linear ratings might be a shell of what they once were, but since it’s produced in-house, FOX has incentive to keep the show going, particularly since it’s edging toward syndication. Additionally, the show is said to do well internationally thanks to its premise, giving the show enough income streams to push it into a fourth season.
But with the death of Nicole Beharie’s Abbie Mills, it remains to be seen what Sleepy Hollow even is in season four. The magic of the first season lied in Beharie’s chemistry with co-lead Tom Mison, so completely taking her out of the equation leaves the show lacking an identity. Without the banter between Abbie and Ichabod, there’s not a whole lot separating Sleepy Hollow from other procedurals on broadcast television, which is sad considering what a breath of fresh air the show was when it premiered. And for that matter, even though Sleepy Hollow will get another chunk of episodes to add to its syndication package, exactly how many people will still be watching the show when it returns in the fall?
In addition to Mison, Sleepy Hollow stars Lyndie Greenwood (Nikita), Lance Gross (House of Payne), and Jessica Camacho (Think Like a Man).
FOX is set to unveil its 2016-2017 plans on Monday, May 16th. You can check out what KSiteTV thought the network could do next season here.
Will you be watching the fourth season of Sleepy Hollow? How do you think the show will/should move on after the death of Abbie Mills? Can the show find a ratings foothold on Fridays next season and possibly claw its way to a fifth season?
