FOX has announced that supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow has been renewed for an 18-episode third season.
“Sleepy Hollow is truly inventive television. The talented producers – led by Alex, Bob, Len and Heather – along with the brilliant cast, anchored by Nicole and Tom, have created a fantastic world that brings ‘history’ to life with compelling and vibrant storytelling,” said David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “I had the pleasure of working with Clifton on both The Glades and White Collar. He is an excellent producer, and we can’t wait to see what this team has in store for Season Three.”
At the beginning of this season, the idea that there would be any question about Sleepy Hollow‘s renewal status seemed preposterous. It was a bright light during FOX’s awful 2013-2014 season, positioning itself for a lengthy run thanks to its unique premise, strong lead chemistry, and the struggles the network had with finding new dramas. However, due to creative struggles, the show crashed into bubble territory this season, with renewal a much less foregone conclusion than it once seemed. The early renewal from FOX came as a result of the show’s healthy international sales and the fact that the studio has invested into 31 episodes thus far, meaning that Sleepy Hollow is inching toward syndication. With new showrunner Clifton Campbell in place and the show likely to become more procedural, the show looks to be positioned for a run toward the vaunted 88-episode watermark, which would be a financial coup for FOX, given that the show is produced in-house.

Will you be watching the third season of Sleepy Hollow? Do you think the show will be able to recapture the lightning in a bottle from season one? Should Sleepy Hollow lean into its mythology more or would you like to see more standalone episodes?

Always annoys me when networks site serialization as “the problem”. It rarely is, and I’ve heard it at least back to the days of BTVS and “Angel”.
What isn’t clear is how much FOX meddled with season 2. Goffman was there for the day-to-day for both seasons and it’s hard to believe the Sleepy team planned out season 2 as it actually aired all by themselves…..not after season 1. And FOX is known for micro-managing.
I am grateful for season 3 because I love the cast. And I hope they don’t cave to the shippers and put Ichabod and Abbie in a romance. That isn’t the point of this show.
