FOX has officially cancelled horror comedy Scream Queens after two seasons. Though the series had big names both in front of and behind the camera, and came into the world on the back of a six-month marketing campaign, Scream Queens never gained any traction with live audiences, plummeting from a mediocre 1.7 series premiere to a series low 0.5 this season. Last season, the show managed to keep itself afloat with okay live numbers that looked better when contextualized with its huge DVR gains and impressive C+3 numbers, as well as a dour FOX schedule, but rare is the major network show that can fall to CW-level ratings and live to tell the tale, Scream Queens not being an exception.
From Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan (Glee), Scream Queens focused on sisters from the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority at Wallace University as they find themselves terrorized by multiple serial killers. While the first season took place on and around the campus of Wallace, season two, which premiered this past September, was primarily housed at the C.U.R.E. Institute, a hospital purchased by Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) with the purpose of reforming the nation’s healthcare system.
In addition to Curtis, Scream Queens starred Emma Roberts (American Horror Story), Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), Billie Lourd (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Lea Michele (Glee), and Niecy Nash (Getting On).
The series finale of Scream Queens aired Tuesday, December 20th on FOX.
