Deadline is reporting that sci-fi drama Salvation has been renewed for a 13-episode second season by CBS, which will premiere next summer.
From Liz Kruger (Necessary Roughness), Craig Shapiro (Extant), and Matt Wheeler (Hawaii Five-0), Salvation follows tech superstar Darius (Santiago Cabrera) and grad student Liam (Charlie Rowe) as they alert the Pentagon to the existence of an asteroid six months from colliding with Earth. Along with government official Grace (Jennifer Finnigan), the two must figure out a way to save mankind and divert the asteroid before it’s too late.
In addition to Cabrera, Rowe, and Finnigan, Salvation stars Jacqueline Byers (Roadies), newcomer Rachel Drance, and Ian Anthony Dale (Murder in the First).
Salvation was part of a pared down summer scripted slate for CBS that included Zoo, which still hasn’t had its fate decided. It was a rough summer for scripted content as the likes of The Carmichael Show, Downward Dog, and Still Star-Crossed were cancelled, while Zoo, Midnight Texas, and Somewhere Between remain in limbo. The lone renewal before Salvation belonged to NBC multi-cam Marlon, which might have a shot at airing in-season.
