Ever since being brought back from the dead by the Essex hive, Mary Sibley has had one mission – save the town she begrudgingly calls home by destroying Samiel. Wracked with guilt over letting her son fall into the hands of Countess Marburg, Mary has had her powers stripped from her and seemingly lost the love of her life during this kamikaze mission for justice, all the while combating the significant feelings of emptiness that came along with this second chance at life. All this pain and misery would’ve been worthwhile had she been able to keep The Boy from rematerializing in his physical form, but once Anne finally snapped, any hope of the Devil staying in Hell and any shred of fight Mary Sibley had left in her vanishing into the ether. So with The Boy out of Hell and ready to reign terror down on this earthly plane, what is Mary (and anyone in the know about the fate that could befall the town) to do?
On the series finale of Salem, there are only minutes remaining until the clock strikes midnight and Black Sunday begins. Not only is the threat of the red mercury bomb still alive and well, Mary has come face to face with the reanimated corpse of the son threatening to destroy the world and force her into marriage. Expectedly, The Boy is as bound and determined as ever, both out of love for his mother and a thirst for revenge for her misbehavior, to make Mary his bride and repopulate the world with an army of gods and monsters that could make God himself tremble in fear. Only this time, Mary might be out of cards to play; she’s trapped in the Sibley house with The Boy and Anne Hale at her most powerful and bloodthirsty while not having her powers or any backup to call upon. Mary’s shrewdness and quick thinking has previously managed to get her out of tight spots, but those were always amplified by the presence of her powers, so without that little extra umph to make up for the weariness she battles on a daily basis, they might not be enough to overcome the hand she’s been dealt.
Elsewhere on Salem, the crowd outside the Bird Cage grows increasingly hostile, while Cotton is forced into making a difficult choice, John sets about finding and defusing the mercury bomb, and an unexpected power grab changes the shape of Salem as we know it.
The series finale of Salem airs Wednesday at 10:00 on WGN America.
Will you miss Salem? Can anyone save town from the red mercury bomb? Even if the bomb is found and deactivated, how will Mary and company put a stop to The Boy once and for all?
