Perhaps because the show doesn’t premiere until midseason, The CW opted not to release the trailer for their highly anticipated Archie Comics adaptation Riverdale. A shorter version than the promo that was shown at the Upfronts did leak online for a few hours before apparently being completely removed and scrubbed from the Internet.
But those who want to see Archie and the gang in a dark and twisted (but awesome) way don’t have to wait until 2017, as a five years ago, a group called “Point Blank Creative” did their own Riverdale Archie Comics parody trailer. Their trailer won a Canadian Comedy Award for best web clip. As a parody, we’re assuming no laws were broken in creating the trailer.
Hopefully The CW will give a formal release to their own very soon, because we’d like to see it again. The CW’s take from Greg Berlanti and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa looks a bit like “Archie by way of Twin Peaks” and if anything, resembles more the Afterlife With Archie comic book series written by Mr. Aguirre-Sacasa. The actual trailer is quite good, and the cast is full of young and good looking people. Even Miss Grundy is attractive!
Riverdale premieres midseason on The CW. For now, enjoy this trailer that’s not from The CW version, but rather the Point Blank parody from a few years ago:
