TV Insider is reporting that The Secret Life of the American Teenager actress Molly Ringwald is set to recur on upcoming CW soap Riverdale. She’ll be playing Archie’s mother Mary Andrews, who returns home after being away following her dreams, and should make her first appearance in the 10th episode of the season.
Based on characters by Archie comics, Riverdale finds the vaunted town reeling from the death of golden boy Jason Blossom. While Archie’s love of music gets the shot in the arm it needed for him to pursue a career as a musician, nervous Betty is using the summer away and Jason’s death as motivation to reveal her true feelings about her best friend. Meanwhile, new student Veronica’s arrival in town changes the social hierarchy at school completely and questions begin to raise about what Cheryl is hiding about the death of her twin.
In addition to her role on the ABC Family drama, Ringwald has appeared on the likes of Odd Mom Out, Raising Expectations, and Psych. She joins a cast that includes the likes of K.J. Apa (Shortland Street), Madchen Amick (Witches of East End), and Luke Perry (Oz).
The series premiere of Riverdale airs Thursday, January 26th at 9:00 on The CW.
