SPOILER WARNING: Do not read this article or watch the video below unless you have seen the May 4 episode of The CW’s Riverdale, titled “Anatomy of a Murder.”
The Riverdale cast is good at keeping secrets, much like the town their fictional characters live in.
In February, as the series was filming its Season 1 finale, KSiteTV’s Craig Byrne was one of a group of journalists that interviewed the cast during that time…. and even though we spoke with over ten actors, none of them gave the secret away about who killed Jason Blossom.
(Shameless plug: You can see many of those videos on KSiteTV’s YouTube Riverdale playlist.)
Even when it should have been at least a major hint, we didn’t pick up on it… such as the case with Madelaine Petsch who plays Cheryl Blossom. At one point, she even mentions worry about what the reveal will do to her… and yet we still didn’t put it together.
“I had three people I thought it would be, and the killer was in that group, but I was more worried for Cheryl than anything else, I think. When I found out who it was, I was like ‘what is this going to do to her’?” Petsch recalled. (For those who don’t know — spoiler warning, again! — Jason’s killer was revealed as his and Cheryl’s father, Clifford Blossom, in Episode 12.)
Some of Petsch’s costars, including Cole Sprouse and Luke Perry, hoped it would be their own characters that did the deed. Were there any other cast members who thought that it might be fun to have such a villainous role?
“I think it really was just Cole and Luke,” Madelaine told us. “For me personally, my character’s already so much fun. Her being the killer, I don’t think would necessarily change anything about her dynamic. She would be the same vilainous person that she is. But both Cole and Luke were like ‘oh, that would make my character so interesting, if I was the killer’ but you’re like ‘okay. Good for you.’ We’re all a little kooky here.”

You can watch video of our interview with Madelaine below… and, as a bonus… check out what happens when her TV brother, Trevor Stines (Jason Blossom), shows up alive and well and SPEAKING! Yes, Jason Blossom has a voice, and now you can find out what he sounds like. Interestingly enough, in this part of the interview we ask Madelaine how scary it is to act opposite the actors who play the Blossom parents, Penelope and Clifford, without even knowing the extent of how horrible they actually are. Enjoy:
