Riverdale Is One Of The CW’s Six Pilot Orders

The CW today ordered six pilots for consideration to land in the 2016-2017 schedule, per Deadline. Today’s pilot orders include the Archie adaptation Riverdale, which was originally set up at FOX.

Here are details about the six pilots ordered so far:

Archie-1Riverdale – Archie comes to live-action TV in a way only Greg Berlanti’s team could master. Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, author of the excellent Afterlife with Archie comic book series, Riverdale “explores the surrealism of small town life” as well as the dark underbelly below. Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Kevin Keller and the rest of the gang all will likely be present, and if a casting director has not yet contacted Gotham’s Cameron Monaghan to play Archie, they’re missing a big chance for a perfect casting job. (WBTV)

Transylvania – Like a dreadful penny, Transylvania “centers on a headstrong young woman in search of her missing father who ventures from NYC to Transylvania where she teams up with a wrongfully disgraced Scotland Yard Detective, and together they witness the births of the most famous monsters and villains in history.” Sounds like the Gotham of monsters. (CBS Studios)

No Tomorrow – No Tomorrow sounds like the perfect Rachel Bloom vehicle if Crazy Ex-Girlfriend doesn’t get a Season 2. The main character of that one is Sarah, a “risk-averse, straight arrow, female procurement manager at an Amazon-like distribution center” who falls in love with Xavier, “a freewheeling man who lives life to the fullest because he believes the apocalypse is imminent, to comedic and poignant results as they embark on a quest together to fulfill their individual bucket lists.” And, we’re assuming that title will have to change, being on the same network that brings us Legends of Tomorrow. (CBS Studios)

Frequency – Based on the 1999 Jim Caviezel movie, this time adapted by Supernatural’s Jeremy Carver and featuring a female lead in 2016 who talks to her dad in 1996. (WBTV)

Kevin Williamson Paranormal Project – At one point titled Ghost, David Nutter is directing, so it will probably go to series. This project is described by Deadline as being “about a young woman who seeks help from a parapsychologist when she begins to experience paranormal phenomena.” (WBTV)

Untitled Mars Project (formerly Colony) – This one comes from one of our favorite writers, Doris Egan. Deadline describes it as a “thriller about a team of explorers who arrive on Mars to join the first human colony on the planet, only to discover that their predecessors have vanished. Led by a woman whose husband is among the missing, the colonists are forced to change their mission from exploration and settlement to investigation and survival, while navigating the hostile planet and their own personal demons. The project is inspired by the story of The Lost Colony, the 16th century British settlement on Roanoke Island, off the coast of North Carolina, whose inhabitants vanished without a trace, sparking a slew of theories about their fate.” (CBS Studios)

I like the premise behind the three WB pilots and two of the three CBS pilots.

Of the CBS pilots I like Transylvania and the untitled Mars project.
