Archie Comics is going all in for Riverdale.
The CW television series with a modern take on the classic characters is set to premiere on Thursday, January 26; in February, following a one-shot special that will come out sooner, Archie is launching an ongoing Riverdale series starring characters as they are in the TV show.
The first issue – scheduled to go on sale February 15 – will boast covers by Alitha Martinez, Elliott Fernandez, Francesco Francavilla, Peter Krause, Djibril Morrissette-Phan, and Ron Salas which you can see below. The cover price will be $3.99. And, of course, the regular “New Riverdale” series including Archie, Josie and the Pussycats, Betty & Veronica, Jughead, and the upcoming title Reggie and Me still continue over at Archie, as do the digest series reprinting the Archie classics.
Here’s the description for the first issue of the new comic book series; cover artwork can be seen in the gallery below.
RIVERDALE #1
From Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and the writers of the new CW series Riverdale comes the first issue of the MUST-READ, brand new, ongoing comic series. Set in the universe of the TV series, the Riverdale comic offers a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, Josie & the Pussycats and their friends, exploring small-town life and the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade. Features interior art by up-and-coming artist Alitha Martinez (Black Panther).
