The Season 3 DVD set for Revenge is now available, and while the amount of extras on the set doesn’t quite match the amount of content we got in previous years, it’s still a must-get for what is there for fans to enjoy. Here’s what we have to look forward to:
The Episodes: All 22 episodes of Season Three are on this set. The show had a new guiding force in Sunil Nayar, who made a few changes in taking over for Mike Kelley while trying to bring the series back to its roots.
Here’s how the ad copy describes it: Get ready for a sizzling-hot summer in the Hamptons. Emily Thorne’s brilliant plan for vengeance takes a wicked turn in ABC’s REVENGE: THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON. Relive the mystery, the fire and the intrigue of TV’s most delightfully devilish series. Emily pursues a new strategy to take down the Graysons once and for all — on her and Daniel’s wedding day — as turned allies, new enemies, and ghosts from the past threaten to expose her. With an ultimatum from Jack and her complicated history with Aiden resurfacing, Emily must take extreme measures to ensure her plan goes off without a hitch. But Victoria has new reasons to destroy the girl next door, and with her long-lost son by her side, everyone — including Nolan — may become collateral damage in Emily and Victoria’s vicious war. Experience the drama of all 22 smoldering episodes, complete with exclusive bonus features that reveal even more juicy secrets. Let the fireworks begin!
For me, it’s fun to get a hold of a set like this, because sadly, Revenge is not a series I was able to keep up with last season, and I’m excited that, with this set, I’ll finally get to see Justin Hartley’s guest role in particular. I do admit, I have cheated a bit in watching the season finale (with commentary by many of the show’s creators), so I know where the story ends, but if you’re a better person than me, you’ll watch all 22 over a week or so to take it all in. Sometimes, I think a serialized series like this might work better for DVD binging or Netflix in this day and age.
The Extras: Like I said, it feels like there were more last year, but the “Table For Five” feature with Josh Bownan, Nick Wechsler, Barry Sloane, Gabriel Mann and Henry Czerny (clearly done when all of their characters were still on the show) is a lot of fun. The commentary on the season finale offers a few new things, though another commentary or two, perhaps involving cast members, might have been nice. The blooper reel has some of that “making faces and funny noises at the camera” stuff that drives me nuts, but it actually has some funny stuff too. Finally, the set includes some deleted scenes.
The fourth disc also has some previews for other things like Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and it also has an ABC Fall 2014 sizzle reel, if you’re curious what’s coming up.
Graphics & Sound: It’s not Blu-ray quality, but it looks as good if not better than how it looks when broadcast on TV.
The Packaging: The cover itself is pretty generic, but the inside has that really good cast shot with the beige background. It matches the tone of the show, at least. The box art is a lot more purple than the blue look that came with the press release, that you see with this article.
Is It Worth It? Fans of Revenge will love having the third season of this show at their fingertips.
