It looks like FOX is aiming to disband the Red Band Society.
Deadline is noting that FOX has pulled the show from their schedule after December 3, and they have opted not to pick up more than the 13 episodes ordered. It does sound like the show will get to shoot all 13 episodes, though where and when they will air – if at all – is a question. Right now all that is known is that they will air “at a later date.”
The series was a critical favorite with a very appealing cast led by Oscar winner Octavia Spencer. However, the ratings may not have been as high as FOX would have liked.
Some outlets are noting that the show isn’t officially canceled, that there could be a Season 2… but this news isn’t particularly encouraging. In some ways, a back order was not expected to begin with, since Empire is taking its time slot next year and real estate on FOX in early 2015 is at a premium.
If anything, we can hope that if this is the end, that the show is able to have a satisfactory conclusion… i.e., Charlie’s totally going to wake up, right?

FOX is so frustrating. This show has a lot of potential if it’s allowed to develop. I’ve also seen comments from people struggling with health issues that it’s been inspiring to them. Oh, to have a Nielsen box so my viewership actually counted. So many shows I like get canceled.
