If you’re like me and grew up in the early 1980’s when popular properties like Mister T and The Dukes were translated into Scooby Doo-like animated series, you’ll probably enjoy the subversive take on them that is seen tonight with the premiere of The Mike Tyson Mysteries on Adult Swim.
Tyson himself voices the lead character, who interacts with folks like the author Cormac McCarthy while solving a mystery of a Chupacabra, and he even has a trusty pigeon at his side. There’s even an effeminate ghost hanging out on the premises.
The first episode – or at least the one that we screened – was pretty hilarious, especially considering Tyson didn’t always seem in on the joke when reading his lines. That, or he was quite aware of the humor within. Either way, he was a good sport.
It’s certainly not a cartoon for the younger crowd, but the older crowd will appreciate it and I can’t wait to see more. Here’s how Cartoon Network describes the show, and a trailer can be found below. Enjoy:
In Mike Tyson Mysteries, Mike Tyson is taking the fight from the boxing ring to the streets…by solving mysteries! Aided by the Mike Tyson Mystery Team — the Ghost of the Marquess of Queensberry, Mike’s adopted Korean daughter Yung Hee, and a pigeon who was once a man — Mike Tyson will answer any plea sent to him. If you have a problem that needs solving, Iron Mike is in your corner. The gloves come off in this quarter-hour series as the former heavyweight champ and his team gears up for weekly adventures as they put unsolved mysteries down for the count.
